Makeda grew up in a home where creativity and innovation were woven into daily life. Her mother was a talented seamstress with a natural eye for interior design, while her father ran a custom plastic slipcover business. For years, she watched him walk the streets of New York City with a large roll of vinyl, cutting and sewing furniture slipcovers onsite for customers—treating each furnishing with care and craftsmanship. It was in this environment that Makeda learned an important life principle: Respect and protect what is sacred.
